In February, Gary hit the USA for a 2-month placement in the new Nano science labs within the Advanced Scientific Research Center (ASRC) in New York. As a new state of the art facility, it allows for groundbreaking research in a variety of different fields. Gary was present as a guest of his supervisor Rein Ulijn, who has been appointed director of the Nanoscience initiative. Within the new labs, Gary was focussed on controlling the kinetics of enzymatic reactions.

Along with the visit to New York, Gary also travelled to San Francisco to present his research at the annual Materials Research Societies (MRS) conference. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Gary did not have a chance to present his work, but had a chance to visit the San Francisco area, so it wasn’t a disappointing trip.
