Congratulations to Allan who successfully defended his PhD work and passed his viva with flying colours. His external examiner (Stuart Macgregor) and internal examiner (Marc Reid) both commented on the excellent contribution that Allan had made to the literature in understanding reaction mechanisms and applying density functional theory to challenging organic reactions. Allan’s thesis “Searching for Mechanistic Insights in Complex Reaction Pathways” involved close collaborations with the Murphy group and Allan was an excellent ambassador for the use of computational chemistry in organic chemistry. We will miss him but wish him every success in his future career.
